Poster Condition Grading

Every original movie poster at Marquee Vault is graded using the industry-standard C-scale condition system. Understanding condition grades helps you make informed purchasing decisions.

The C-Scale

Movie poster condition is graded on a C1 through C10 scale, where C10 represents mint (unused) condition and C1 represents very poor condition with heavy damage. Most original theatrical posters in circulation grade between C5 and C8.

Common Grades

C9–C10 (Near Mint to Mint): Minimal to no signs of use. Vibrant colors, sharp edges, no significant folds or tears.

C7–C8 (Fine to Very Fine): Light use with minor fold lines, small edge wear, or slight color loss. Still displays beautifully.

C5–C6 (Good to Very Good): Moderate use with visible fold lines, some edge wear, possibly minor tears. Honest theatrical condition.

C3–C4 (Fair to Good): Heavy use with significant folds, tears, or staining. Often suitable for display but not investment-grade.

Condition and Value

Condition has a dramatic effect on poster value. A C9 example of a desirable title can be worth 10× or more than a C5 example of the same poster. Our grading is honest and conservative — we describe flaws, not hide them.
